Led By A Former Government Buyer
I’m Emaniece Gordon, MBA, MSM — Your GovCon Insider. Before advising small businesses, I spent years inside government procurement as a contracting professional, supporting acquisitions, evaluating requirements, and helping move purchasing decisions through the procurement process.
That experience gave me a practical view of what many business owners never see: how requirements are developed, how procurement decisions move, how responsiveness and capability are evaluated, and why strong positioning, opportunity fit, and compliance matter throughout the contracting process.
The GovCon JumpStart Challenge™ brings that buyer-side perspective into a practical starting point for small businesses that want to strengthen their readiness, pursue better-fit opportunities, and approach bids and proposals more strategically.

The 3-Day Experience
Each day builds on the one before it—helping you strengthen your business readiness, identify better-fit opportunities, and understand how to approach bids and proposals more strategically.
Day 1
Assess your government contracting readiness, strengthen your government-facing business presence, and identify the positioning gaps that may need attention before pursuing opportunities.
Day 2
Learn where government opportunities can be found, how to review key solicitation information, assess opportunity fit, and recognize when subcontracting or teaming support may be needed.
Day 3
Understand how solicitation requirements shape your response, the common components of a government bid or proposal, and how compliance, pricing, and response planning work together.
The GovCon Reality
Government contracting can become frustrating when businesses pursue opportunities without first understanding their readiness, evaluating opportunity fit, or developing a clear response strategy.
Registration alone does not mean a business is ready to pursue every opportunity. Your capabilities, government-facing business presence, relevant experience, resources, and ability to perform all matter.
Finding an opportunity is only the beginning. Businesses also need to determine whether the requirement aligns with their capabilities, experience, resources, and readiness to perform.
A strong response starts with understanding the solicitation. Instructions, evaluation factors, pricing requirements, compliance, and submission requirements should guide how you build your bid or proposal.
A Different Kind Of GovCon Experience
The GovCon JumpStart Challenge™ goes beyond simply registering your business and searching for opportunities. You’ll build a clearer understanding of business readiness, opportunity fit, solicitation requirements, and bid and proposal strategy—so you can approach government contracting with greater clarity and purpose.
| Feature / Focus | GovCon JumpStart Challenge™ | Common Starting-Point Approach |
|---|---|---|
| Perspective | Guided by the practical perspective of a former government procurement professional | Often begins with general registration steps and basic opportunity searching |
| Business Readiness | Helps you assess registration, compliance, capabilities, business presence, and readiness gaps | May treat registration as the primary indicator that a business is ready to pursue contracts |
| Opportunity Selection | Emphasizes reviewing requirements and assessing whether an opportunity fits your capabilities and resources | May focus primarily on locating available opportunities to pursue |
| Solicitation Understanding | Introduces key solicitation sections, instructions, evaluation factors, points of contact, and submission requirements | May move quickly from finding an opportunity to preparing a response |
| Bid & Proposal Strategy | Connects compliance, response planning, common proposal components, pricing instructions, and submission requirements | May focus on proposal writing before establishing a clear response strategy |
| Outcome | You leave with clearer next steps for strengthening readiness, evaluating opportunities, and approaching bids and proposals | You may leave with information but without a connected path from readiness to opportunity pursuit and response |

Frequently Asked Questions
No. The Challenge is designed to provide a strong starting point for newer government contractors, but established businesses can also benefit from reassessing their readiness, opportunity-selection process, and approach to bids and proposals.
Federal contracting will be an important reference point throughout the Challenge, but many of the principles we cover — including business readiness, opportunity fit, solicitation review, compliance, and response planning — are also relevant when pursuing state and local government opportunities.
No. Day 3 focuses on building your bid and proposal strategy. You’ll learn how solicitation requirements shape a response, understand common proposal components, and see how compliance, pricing instructions, evaluation factors, and submission requirements work together. Full proposal development and advanced proposal writing are beyond the scope of the 3-Day Challenge.
The Challenge combines the practical perspective of a former government procurement professional with a structured three-day progression. Rather than treating registration, opportunity searching, and proposals as separate topics, we connect business readiness, opportunity fit, solicitation understanding, and response strategy so you can see how the pieces work together.
Each session includes approximately 60 minutes of live instruction, followed by optional Q&A. Replay access is available based on your selected registration level.
